Bye bye summer
Labor day has come and gone and all the non-average beings have returned to the folds of the average; back to school and back to work.
Though thoughts of the summer will carry us through the next few weeks, soon it will be time to think about the end of the year and what charity we want to support. In the past we’ve donated to Toys for Tots and Charity:Water. The MLIA store is down at the moment, but once it is back up – no later than November 1st, I promise – all store proceeds, from now until the end of the year, will be donated to charity. Please leave your charity suggestions in the comments below. By November Charity:Water should also have an update for us on the status of the well we funded. Fingers crossed.
I think you should do something for breast cancer awareness like the ribbon last year but to raise money. Save the tatas.

I still think you should do something for the Humane Society or the ASPCA…

Or if not animals, perhaps something like a scholarship foundation. Help fund some kid’s future education.

I have 2 suggestions.
1. The Red Cross: Clearly with all the madness going on around the world with disasters they are the ones with the most immediate need.
2. The Captain Andy Fund: This fund will bring beer and pizza to the Captain Andys of the world.

The second one also supports my need for beer and pizza.

What if you just did cancer research in general, especially research for children? Or just donating to people who have cancer. Like an organization like the Jimmy Fund or Dana Farber hospital (not these per say but this is just an example because I don’t really know how to describe it).

I think you should do a Red Cross one in honor of the 9/11 10th year anniversary. I think that although the other ones are good ideas too, this one is more appropriate for the year, and also because of hurricanes, tornadoes, and the earthquake that happened along the East Coast.

I agree on this one. Plus the stuff in Japan last Spring and it going to be nice if we did something about everything that nature did to us.

You can donate to support Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. My six year old cousin was diagnosed and I went to a fund raiser for the cause last month. It was inspiring to see all these young children with diabetes and the families that support them.

I think that we should sponsor an association that helps the mentally retarded because people with downs syndrome could be very happy with us helping them enjoy life like mlia helps us enjoy life.

Despite the offensive joking that others are doing, I actually would love to help support a charity for people (especially children) with various mental disabilities. It is an issue very close to my heart, and I think it would be a great way to help.
Another idea I have would be “Make-A-Wish” which, if you are unaware, is an organization that helps grant what unfortunately often ends up as ‘last’ wishes to people, mostly children, with life-threatening/terminal illnesses.
I’d also support donating to Mental Health America (http://www.nmha.org/) which is an organization that helps to fund research regarding various mental illnesses, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, etc.
Finally, To Write Love On Her Arms (twloha.com) is an excellent organization that works for suicide and self-harm prevention.
Any of the other ideas stated above would also be great, of course. But these are just a few that are near to my heart.
