Life is pretty normal today

So… Funny story…

Disclaimer: This story is not actually funny… at all… you shouldn’t just believe everything you read.

Hey Guys, Gals and Circafan,

As you might have noticed, there were no new MLIAs on the site for about 12 hours today. My bad.

A few weeks ago, I announced some changes we were working on for the site. We hit a few road blocks with those features and as a result we weren’t able to finish them before school work started piling up again. Last night I decided that I had to make some changes and I had to make them NOW. I quickly whipped up a quick-fix to help reduce the number of stories in the queue. In my haste, I didn’t test my code properly and I broke a few things.

Today I spent a few hours fixing the bugs I introduced as well as a few more I found, so hopefully is already back to normal. The criteria for getting on the front page has changed a little, so there might be very few stories getting published and then suddenly tons, but I will keep tweaking things until a good number of stories are getting published each day.

I was planning on launching the “Extraordinarily Average” page today, but that has been pushed back for obvious reasons.

If you are one of the active commenters on the site, you will be happy to know that I’ve eased the limit on comments. Also, I noticed you haven’t been bashing the latest MLIAs in the comments :D – although kiska said, “MLIA is on a nice roll today….if this keeps up, I am going to bash the OP anyway.”, so I’m glad you will be able to find something to rag on.

Keep it average,

Mek

  1. Hopefully whatever changes you made makes MLIA stay this way forever. The average stories filling up the front page is the Best. Change. Ever. It made my day. My faith in Mek has been restored. Well played, Mek, well played. I’m still confused. I couldn’t stop laughing.

      • It’s so great to have the real MLIA back!!
I knw several peop[le who stopped reading it because it had become so lame.
Everything on the site is average (and by “average” I mean “awesome”).
        Thanks!

  2. I’m loving the new average MLIA. It is amazing. I’m a commenter though, so new MLIAs need to come in more often! With 1000+ comments on each post it is a little intimidating and it makes it hard to follow my conversations. Maybe limit it to somewhere between 4 and 10 posts an hour. Enough for people who just read the post, and enough to comment on for the commenters with out changing posts every 20 seconds. Thanks.

    • Usually there are a lot more posts and they aren’t average.

      • Yeah, but it’s so hard to follow everything on a 1000 comment post. I do quite love the return of the averageness though <3

  4. So… you skipped roughly 300000 entries, will they ever actually be published?

    Popolopolous

    March 12, 2010 at 7:56 am

    • Yes, we did. Unfortunately not, although only a handful of those 300k would have been published had they been given a chance.

  5. Okay. I love the new average MLIA. I really, REALLY do. Don’t get me wrong, Mek. I think it’s great and I’m excited for it. But, now I feel useless as I have no one to threaten and mock. And that’s, like…my job. *hangs head*

I’m glad, though, that you’ve been taking our suggestions/comments seriously and trying to please us. I don’t know how I feel about you reading the comments, though. I feel awkward now…

  6. I adore the new MLIA. It feels like back in July when I started readig, only stories are acually more average then they were then! It’s wonderful, and I’ve fallen love with MLIA all over again. Best. Website. Creator. Ever? I think so.

When you click my account, all you can see is your own stories. Mayhaps one such as yourself could tweak this so we could view each other’s accounts and maybe have space to write a bit about us? Not like lame social networking stuff, but stuff such as how long we’ve been commenting or who we are in the world of MLIA?
Just trying to add something to your likely endless list of things to improve the site. Plus I thought it was a pretty nifty idea.

  21. okay, i have one question: do you really care that the posts are now more awesome then average? because some people are overreacting and freaking out about the “new site”. i love it the way it is. and the people overreacting are also saying “LOOK, THIS SITE IS ONLY FOR AVERAGE STORIES. IT SAYS SO IN THE FAQS.” and i said… “well, everything changes, and we can break the rules.” i’m just sick of fighting.

    katiebear4ev

    March 13, 2010 at 1:03 pm

    • The thing is… They aren’t awesome. People use all the same things over and over in their fake stories and the things become cliches, and then no one wants to even see them.

      UnicornsDoExist(:

      March 13, 2010 at 1:19 pm

      • I might agree that once in a while they aren’t as horrible as others, but that’s like a 1/30 chance. Most of them are cliched. And I have to admit, I’m a bit of a grammar nazi, so I dislike posts with bad grammar and/or capitalization.

  24. HI my name is lorraine and I am a reporter from the Landstown Times. I would like a to write an article for the next ussue of our newspaper featuring MLIA. If I could please speak to the main workers or even better the creaters of MLIA that would be awesome! I want to do justice to MLIA and write a really fantastic article! This story will be posted online, as well as spread over the entire Virginia Beach area, as well as Raonoke Virginia. I will also be forwarding the article to students and teachers from my old high school in both Orlando Florida and Pensacola Florida and Jacksonville Florida. On top of that I will be translating the entire thing into spanish since I am bilingual and sending it to my family in Panama City, Panama for them to spread to THIER friends and extended families. I want MLIA to be spread as much as possible, becuase It has been an inspirational website as well as the best medication (smiles and laughs) I have come across ever. I want to spread the averageness, but i’m going to need some help making this article the best I can. I’m going to need quotes, interviews, a summary of the site, and a way to contact the interviewees. If any avid readers of the sie would like to submit thier comments on the site please don’t hesitate to leave a follow up comment saying so. Thank you so much for your help!

      • I don’t usually read the comments, but now you got me curious haha. And some really do its kinda funny. Inspiration comes in wierd ways. for example my little brother told me that I would write better If I used a cooler pen and gave me his winnie the poo pen. I was then inspired to buy a pack of multi-colored gel pens so my writing would be more fun. Haha. My last english project was in glittery neon orange gel pen. It was great*

  26. The problem with the new posts is that they aren’t original anymore. I’m getting sick of MLIA myself. It used to be one of those sites I’d check out straight after getting home, but now it’s one of those sites that’s the last on my list of favorite websites. I’m sorry if I seem like I’m complaining, but I am. Look, there was a point in time where MLIA was completely average, then it became slightly less average and funny, but now it’s just cliche. I miss the second kind of MLIA mentioned, the one that wasn’t boring average, yet fun to read. If you read this whole thing, thank you, if you skimmed through it, I still thank you, if you didn’t read it, oh well. Good night, thank you for your time.
